Current Work | Abstract-figurative paintings by Manuel Süess

by Manuel 'Manuello' Süess

Abstract-figurative dance paintings by Manuel Süess

In his current work Manuel Süess concentrates mainly on the development of his artisan skills to further improve the quality, expression and multi-dimensionality of his paintings.

Manuel combines abstract and figurative elements as well as different artistic approaches and techniques in his artworks. He creates the background of his paintings with strong colors and abstract shapes and crafts his figures with black grainy modelling paste on top of it. The contrast of the back- and foreground highlights the vivid sculptural appearance and the depth of his paintings.

His abstract figures are inspired by his first abstract dancers, his early linocut art cards and traditional Chinese paper cuts. Opposite to usual paper and linocuts Manuel doesn’t cut his figures out of the canvas but shapes them with modelling past on top of it. The spared areas of the figures let the background color shine through and accent the agility of the dancers, birds and horses.

Besides his popular dance paintings Manuel Süess also paints and creates abstract birds and horses. Although they are different work series he unifies them by using the same techniques. Each series has their own color palette and topics: dancers full of joy and passion in red and yellow, free, independent birds in blue and down-to-earth horses in green and brown.

Abstract horses modelled on canvas

by Manuel 'Manuello' Süess

Abstract horses modelled on canvas by Manuel Süess

Manuel Süess developed his abstract-figurative horses inspired by his popular dance paintings and his early linocut cards. He creates his horses like his dancers with modelling paste on canvas what gives them a vividly and sculptural appearance.

Manuel’s horses are living, trotting and grazing on their abstract meadows. Sometimes he models his horses also on an unicolored canvas. Manuel uses these artworks to practice and refine his modelling technique.

At his latest versions of his horse designs Hazel and Heinrich he used more modelling paste than ever. He made his abstract horses bigger and thicker to refine their details and appearance. As his first horses had a thickness of only some millimeters his latest reach a thickness of up to a centimeter on top of the canvas. Thereby the latest versions of Hazel and Heinrich gain a more detailed body and a improved sculptural appearance to the viewer.

Review & Work Catalog 2016

by Manuel 'Manuello' Süess

Review 2016

2016 Manuel Süess concentrated on the further development of his art and the improvement of the technical quality of his work.

Manuel developed his dancers from wild, abstract figures to more elegant forms with manlike proportions and therefore reduced the element of chance of the outcome of his paintings. Inspired by his early lino cuts as well as by Chinese paper cuts he added cut-outs to his figures to achieve the effect of suspense and movement within the body of his dancers that was earlier achieved be the element of chance. He sculpted his dancers with modelling paste on the canvas of his paintings what gave them a vivid and sculptural appearance. Manuel Süess used the same technique for his new horse paintings and will be using it for his popular bird series to unify his painting technique over all his work series.

2016 Manuel Süess created 45 paintings and more than 20 art print motives. His artworks were shown in his art studio to interested visitors and clients.

Review & Work Catalog 2015

by Manuel 'Manuello' Süess

Review 2015

2015 Manuel Süess continued focussing on his colourful abstract dance paintings. He also conducted his art market study for the second time and got interesting results.

That year he painted less than usual. Manuel used a lot of time to review his current projects, to evaluate which have low potential of success, to terminate those and to get more time for the future development of his work and company. The decision was made to revive his bird series as addition to his dance paintings as his bird artworks sold well in the past. Besides other projects he shut down all of his blogs but “The Art Blog” and “Der Kunst Blog”.

2015 Manuel Süess created 13 paintings, 7 art print motives and more than 300 art cards. His artworks were shown in his art studio as well as at an international group show in Zurich, Switzerland.

Welcome in Red Town

by Manuel 'Manuello' Süess

Welcome in Red Town

Welcome in Red Town, the vibrant suburban city where you won’t find cars but a lot of dancers dancing on the streets. The people of Red Town love to dance all day and all night. Everyone dances like no one is watching.

My little dancers are now living and dancing in their own city: Red Town. First paintings and prints with scenes of the live in Red Town are already available. More will follow. :)

New: Standardized Prices for my Original Paintings

by Manuel 'Manuello' Süess

New: Choose and buy your favorite painting without comparing prices. Just choose and buy the one you like the most.

Now nearly all of my handmade, original paintings cost the same. (Exceptions: a.o. Babykauz and commissions) As in my opinion the matter of price of a painting is not about the size but about who made it and if it’s a one of a kind, handmade artwork.

Are you looking for a gift or a colorful artwork for your office or your home? Check out my paintings.

Discover the topics of my colorful abstract dance and bird paintings.

by Manuel 'Manuello' Süess

My dance and bird paintings are not just beautiful abstract-figurative paintings of birds and dancers in strong colors. They often have also a profound meaning.

On one hand there are my dance paintings in red, orange and yellow acrylic colors full of energy and motivation visualizing passion, zest of life and vitality. On the other hand there are my blue bird paintings, refreshingly quiet and relaxing, visualizing topics like peace, freedom, relief and hope.

Both work series sometimes also overlap or even merge using trees as connecting link and connect air and earth with their roots and branches.

Despite all their differences together my dance and bird paintings complete one another to their own kind of harmony.
